I honestly believe that the writers of Season 5 are on crack. Get this for a story idea... The Professor is asleep and the girls don't want to wake him. As fate would have it, a burglar sneaks into PPG's house that very night. Blossom grabs the burglar by the throat so he can't scream and the other two beat the snot out of him. The end. Oh wait! That would have made sense. Instead, the girls chase him around the house making as much noise as possible. Did I mention the part where Bubbles first discovers the burglar in the kitchen? You know what she does when she realizes he's a burglar? She goes to bed. WTF?! One star for the superb animation. Zero for the story.

I think the scene with Bubbles at the fridge was rather cute. Just because someone has superpowers doesn't mean they have to use them ALL THE TIME. This is especially true if the power requires energy and/or focus to perform. Although none of us can understand why Bubbles doesn't fly, it's my theory that she's too groggy from getting out of bed in the middle of the night. I get the same way when I wake up hungry at 4:30 AM.
Anyway, I enjoy watching the burgler in terror of the superheroines, running as if he just saw "mutants." I nominate him for the "Most Pitiful Burgler Award." My two-cents would be for the narrator to say "Once again the day is saved thanks to Professor Utonium" instead of the Powerpuff Girls, although the writers wanted the girls shooshing the audience. I also have to agree that the girls were to take a "sound-suppressive fighting" approach, but I guess the writers needed to stretch the time out of the show, not to mention of Blossom's obsession to solve problems diplomatically whenever possible. Besides for that, I guess the girls wanted to have some fun with the foolish crook by torturing him with fear. We all love to watch toture.
The story worked alright in such regard that it needed to be stretched to fit a 15-minute time-slot, but the burgler was screaming his head off, which makes it a wonder that the girls wouldn't have already failed. The "Redeeming Quality" of this story is the professor mumbling random stuff in his sleep and how he managed to stay asleep regardless of the crook and the girls being as loud as if war broke loose. OK, maybe not the girls, but the crook at least. Like all episodes of the Great Decline, this one continues to forsee the trend of imminent death of the once glorious series.
