It was a bit of a cheat. See, what they did was to play it through a SNES emulator. They slowed it down and used save states to make sure it was perfect. They recorded all of the moves and then played it back at full speed.

Your a little bit right about that king, while watching I noticed the time was going rather slow, so I tried it out myself on my Snes, and yeah the moves he done are real because I managed to complete a few of the levels the way he did (only on the first world :( ), but the time remained the same didnt go fast or slow. So... I guess he could beat the game in under 30 minutes...

Note: Super Mario Bros. 3 wasn't on the SNES. It was on the original NES. I own a copy of it.

Unless you're talking about Super Mario All-Stars...

The emulator has a "capture" mode to save your gameplay. It played back in real time, but when he actually did it, he lowered the clock speed of the emulated CPU so everything moved really slow. He really doesn't have matrix-style reflexes.
