[What? Flare stole the idea of Cowboy Bebop // Serenity // thousands of science fiction films...and didn't even make an attempt to cover it up?! THE SCANDAL.
Alright, kids, here's the deal. Flare misses RPing in first person, because every site she's on is third person and she is in first person withdrawl. She also misses her old RR.net RP crew - you guys know who you are - and wants to reunite with them once more in a tale of glory and magnificence. Only not.]
T H E P L O T
The human race, once confined to only the planet earth for a habitat and home, has long since expanded its reign. Now it stretches across the galaxy, its populations topping the several trillion point. With hundreds of worlds settled and colonized throughout the galaxy and the technology to better the human race for all time, it was unavoidable that people would begin to believe that not only could they make the lives of human beings better; they could make human beings themselves better.
So began the experiments.
In a remote pocket of the galaxy called the Xenar System, lit mostly by an especially bright star, a special research team composed of the most brilliant minds of the time - scientists, physicians, inventors, philosophers, and mathematicians alike - began what was dubbed as Operation: Zion. Selecting various groups of undesireables from several intergalactic prisons they began to experiment upon the beings, trying to find a way to make humans live longer, live stronger, and be better in general. Some of their experiments were successful, but the majority of them ended in blood, grief and death. Thousands lost their lives as these people sought to make humanity better, not realizing that it was already good enough.
When Undesireables began to run out, the Intergalactic Government began to search for others to continue the experiment. Soon enough innocents were being picked up from the streets and transported in cargo ships to the Xenar System. Those who were left behind, wondering where their loved ones had gone, were told by the government that they had been killed and would pin the blame on someone - occasionally an innocent - whose life was ended soonafter.
This continued for quite some time, and the IG and Operation: Zion went according to plan. However, problems began to arise when, due to all the supposed murders that were going on, the real crime rate throughout the entire galaxy began to rise. Things grew to an almost catastrophic state in a matter of a few years, and for quite some time the IG were at a loss.
This is where bounty hunters came in.
Most were assasains in the beginning, trained by the government to take out anyone who opposed them. Government arrests would be put out for them, and whichever one killed said individual person would recieve rewards of varying sizes, but with enough kills a person could live a life of safety (for the most part) and grandure. Soon enough, though, with the changing times, the policies of the government changed, and the arrests would be put on display for the general public, opening up all sorts of new opportunities for those of little conscience and morality. Fortunately, there are plenty of people in the galaxy who are of little conscience and morality, though there are a select few bounty hunters who stand out against the rest, who always get the job done with ease and who have made this not just their profession, but their lifestyle.
Recently, though, rumors have begun to spring up concerning the Zion Operation and what it consists of. The Governent was clueless as to how these rumors have come into effect, thankfully. What they didn't know is that one scientist, wrought with grief, brought one of the few successful projects of Operation: Zion on a cargo ship with him and took her to the other parts of the Galaxy in hopes of maybe rallying up some with nobility in their veins to fight back and to show the galaxy the truth about what happened. Unfortunately for the scientist, while stopping at Mars he was found out by a Government official and killed on site. The project, known only by the number eight, dissappeared and has yet to be found.
Desperate to keep Operation: Zion under wraps, the government has released a warrant for the project Eight, saying that she is armed and highly dangerous, and that she is to be killed upon sight. The reward is greater than any bounty in the written history of the galaxy. Bounty hunters from far and wide have sprung up at the opportunity and have begun to track Eight, equipped with incredible strength and assassaination techniques, with expert skill. But in the end, will any of them find out the truth, or is it to die when they choose their bounty over saving humanity?
---
I, of course, will be Eight. The rest of you can be whoever you want: a bounty hunter [it would be easy if all the bounty hunters were part of one crew, but we can work with them not being in the same crew] a government official, a citizen...anything. Go hog wild. The only thing you can't be is another escaped experiment. Eight is the only one. This is why she's special. I PERSONALLY THINK IT WOULD BE RAD IF THE LOT OF YOU WERE BOUNTY HUNTERS, BECAUSE BOUNTY HUNTERS ARE FUCKING AWESOME.
Just make sure you follow the plot relatively closely.
I miss you guys a lot. I miss this whole damn site a lot, and this time I'm coming back for real. I PROMISE. Cross my heart, hope to die, the whole shebang. School is a bitch and has been kicking my ass, but I'M BACK. And this time, it's for real.

Awww, we love you too. Welcome back, for sure! Never really RPed out of PPG universe stories but gotta grow up sometime right?
....
Name Lynch
Age Unknown, believed to be between late 20s and mid 30s.
Status Bounty Hunter, for sure. Cyborg to be exact.
If bounty hunter, status on crew: I'll throw myself out to whoever decides to roll with me. Come on, it'll be fun! I am a team player.
Powers? Tried to balance the "ups" with "downs".
-Armor suit protecting vital organs, brain and other crucial body parts that can't or haven't already been replaced with mechanical "mods". Uses bounties to fund such operations. Suit can be penetrated by high-powered weaponry (i.e. rail-guns) but can defend against most conventional weapons. Requires maintenance.
-Spring boosters attached to leg units, allowing for high jumps when necessary.
-Right arm has been replaced with weapons platform. Significantly stronger than left arm and can mount various heavy weapons if available. Heaviness can offset balance depending on the situation.
-Night/thermal vision via all-purpose tech-visor.
Weapons? Various firearms. Everything from heavy blasters to sniper weapons to small ballistics (rocket launchers). And explosives. Uh....and punching and kicking. He can throw a MEAN temper tantrum.
Skills ....He's good at using weapons? Oh, and he knows how to turn ANY frown upside down. :D
Edit: If space ships are an issue, I should probably have piloting skills but I'm just as good riding shotgun with someone else, for sure.
Weakness Obviously, EMP weapons will really fuck up his day. So will really hard riddles. Speed also lacks due to armor. Easily frustrated.
Personality Jocular, sarcastic, dimwitted on occasion. Personality betrays otherwise serious appearence.
History Just another bounty hunter doing his job. Nothin' special.
Other Oh yea! Lynch likes to screw with people for his own amusement. The more serious and strict you are, the more he'll attempt to make your life a living hell.
Oh, and pic.

Name: Burikko.
Age: 17
Status: Bounty Hunter
If bounty hunter, status on crew: The newbie on Lynch’s squad.
Powers? Shape Shifter. (Currently still training.)
Weapons? Numerous firearms. Shot guns, machine guns, tommy guns, but she also carries a sword and ninja stars just in case she runs out of ammo. (Unlikely, though.)
Skills: Well, she doesn’t really have any. Except shape shifting and one form of martial arts. She isn’t a great fighter, but a decent one. She hasn’t lost a match as of yet. (Mostly due to dumb luck.)
Personality: Very childlike and doesn’t take things seriously until things go from bad to worse. A bit clueless, and pretty much can’t sit still. She likes action, and can get trigger happy from time to time.
History: She grew up in an orphanage without a grudge, but (although she was happy) escaped to look for adventure when she was sixteen. She lived on the streets for a few days, then got a simple job as a cashier in the local liquor shop, got herself a small studio apartment and that was that. She was bummed when she realized she didn’t find adventure at all until one day, two days before her birthday… She saw a bounty hunter cyborg like… man taking down a no good crook. So right then and there she quit her job, walked outside and simply said, “Hey, bounty hunter man? Where do I sign up?”
Other: Hmmm… Nothing I can think of. Oh! She's been on Lynch’s for about 3 months. So, she know's what she's doing. ...Most of the time. Like I said, still a newbie.
Hey Gopher, I hope it was alright for my character to get involved with yours... |

EDIT: Just added an appearance.
I've seen a LOT of Bounty Hunter-ish space stories die quickly... But if theres any RP groups that can pull it off, it's the RRN crew. Sign me up, this sounds awesome.
Name: Dist Marks
Age: Appears to be in his early twenties, but is 34 years old.
Status: Bounty Hunter
Status on crew: Senior member of the Lynch Mob
Powers: High level martial arts and a microchip implanted in his brain to teach him to use any weapon.
Weapons: Whatever is in the armory, but he always keeps a light-saber style katana with him.
Skills: He's extremely good with martial arts, as he was the teacher at a dojo before he became a bounty hunter. A blackbelt in 3 different schools that have long died out because of the test of time and the preference of technology over the physical. Also, hes extremely adept at being a pilot, as he demonstrated a natural skill in the cock pit even without his microchip. He learned to fly, because at the time, the Lynch Mob was lacking a good pilot.
Weakness: Being a human with only a mod-chip for an advancement, he is easily taken out by a bullet compared to his crew members.
Personality: Semi-serious but likes to joke like anyone else. He was a very serious person, but after a month of working with the Lynch Mob, you realize thats not a good idea, because of one of Lynch's character traits. Now, he likes to keep his mind on the task at hand but he will joke just like anyone else.
History: As you can probably guess from Dist's skills, he used to be a martial arts teacher on Earth. However, after his last student graduated and moved on to better things at Mars, Dist was left without students for an entire four months. After a while of living alone without a family(who would marry a dirt poor martial artist in this day and age?), Dist began to apply his skills to bounty hunting. To start off in this new field, he spent his entire life savings on a mod chip.
It's been more than five years since he joined the Lynch Mob, which was just starting out at the time. He's easily one of the more competent members of the crew and in charge of piloting the ship and managing the bounties on the bulletin board in the lounge of the gigantic ship. Most of Dist's earning during bounties have gone directly to the ship, so it is extremely extravagant. Whatever is left over is put into Dist's 'rainy day fund.'
Appearance: He wears a grey muscle shirt with a brown leather jacket over top of it. He also wears black jeans, and these clothes are relatively small on him as Dist refuses to wear anything baggy. "It hinders movement" as he claims, so his dress code is never anything that might slow him down. One distinguishable feature he has is his pilot's goggles which he wears on his head to keep the hair out of his eyes. He took to wearing them when he started learning to fly. |

While third person narrative tends to make everything seem a lot less personal, I would also say that it makes up for it with better storytelling--much less "me, me, me, me" and more "this, that, this, that". :O
But hey, I guess that's why they call it "role-playing", and not "collaborative storytelling". |

Dude.
De ja vu.
Yeah, I'm thinking I'll be the same person but female. With some modifications.
I DECLARE THIS SPACE RESERVED.
edit
Name Unknown. Goes by codename: Tarot.
Age 29
Status Government Agent
Weapons? Basic field agent weapons, a few guns. A knife, a taser. Her weapon of choice is usually a high-powered lazer whip. Carries small grenades and charges. Also, those lame red glasses? They're not just glasses. Seriously.
Skills Is in top physical form. Has gymnastic abilities including training in combat. Is also a fully-trained medic. Think military girl, people!
Personality Is pretty freakin' serious and determined. She's a goddamn government agent, guys.
History Father and mother both tough military types, it was only a matter of time before Tarot was enlisted to be a field agent for the Intergalactic Government. Tarot was stationed in the Xenar System for security purposes. In charge of security in Operation: Zion, it was a huge blow to her reputation when Project Eight escaped. Angered by this security slip, Tarot was the one who ultimately found the scientist and shot him. Tarot was only more infuriated when Eight escaped from her again.
Other
Well, now she's on the hunt. Because Tarot is a government official, she's able to get through a lot of places most bounty hunters wouldn't be able to access. She's got the clearance, yo. Also, Tarot is keeping her identity secret and stuff. Security purposes, guys.

It really is a fucking reunion. Sup Yaz, long time no see.
....
But yea, you know, we don't really have to call it the "Lynch Mob" if you don't wanna. I was just making a corny joke. Actually, let's not call it that. Besides that implies my toon is the leader, and he ain't exactly the kind of guy you want managing your paperwork. Or payrolls. Or even your grocery list.
Got no problem taking someone under my wing though, I can deal with that.
(Woa, this story has already been done before?) |

But the 'Lynch Mob' sounded so cool... Besides, you could always pawn the paper work off on somebody else. *coughDistcough*
And like I said... These kinda RP's rarely take off, but theres a lot more dedicated players here than there so we'll see how it goes.
Edit: Should we just start the RP in that thread when we get going? Or is a fresh start the way to go? And damn... I've gotta be the odd one out here without Pyro. |

Name Unknown. Project name: Eight.
Age Nineteen, she believes, though she really has no way of knowing for sure.
Status ESCAPED PROJECT OMG.
Powers Eight posesses telepathy and, when she is under high stress situations, occasionally exhibits telekenises. Her developement of these special abilities was what made the scientists at Xenar certain that she was, in fact, a breakthrough.
Weapons Two handguns and a knife are what she has on her now. If thrust into a combat situation, she utilizes everything she can as weaponry and uses these things with expert skill. She is knowledgeable in weaponry and while she prefers guns if she is forced to fight - they're so much cleaner, after all - she is also an expert with swords, knives, spears, axes, and nearly anything you can think of.
Skills First and foremost, it's essential to realize that Eight is in perfect physical condition. Though her appearance is diminutive and she looks nearly harmless, Eight is the single greatest accomplishment of the Xion Project. She is built for combat and is trained in martial arts, swordplay, and can handle any type of weapon with extreme precision. Her agility and stamina allow her to hardly ever tire, and it is nearly impossible to beat her using only weaponry in physical combat. Her body heals quicker than most as well.
Personality Because she was basically harvested and devoid of any sort of social interaction, Eight's concept of human emotions is limited and she can barely understand her own feelings. No one ever explained to her - at least, not in her memory - the symptoms of grief, happiness, love. She has no clear concept of beauty or anything abstract at all; rather, she's been trained to think as a machine does and acts as such. There is some gentleness around her, however, which is another reason she is different from other projects: there is still human left in her, and the ability to feel, even if she doesn't understand what it is that she's feeling. Due to her lack of interaction with human beings other than cold scientists and fellow, zombie-like projects, Eight is quite socially inept. Her perception is skewed and her mannerisms very childlike. All-in-all, she's quite adorable, and you'd never guess that she is at all dangerous.
History She can't remember her past before she was taken to Xenar. She does not know if she has a family, or if she was perhaps an orphan, as she often speculates. She knows that the officials on Xenar only take "unwanted" beings for their experiments, and assumes she was somehow a lesser person. Whatever the case, she has no recollection of when she was brought to Xenar, but remembers clearly her first day there. She was stripped of her clothes, weighed and measured and run through countless tests, and eventually branded - a searing number 008 on her forearm, symbolizing that she was the eighth addition of the 000 generation on Xenar.
The next several years of her life were tedious and virtually the same thing day after day after day. First, her intelligence was boosted, and dozens of things were imprinted onto her brain every day. Next came physicality and stamina, and finally combat situations. She was trained to become the perfect being, as were the rest in her series, but not many of them made it through the first year. If performance was unsatisfactory, Projects were disposed of immediately.
Eight, however, proved to be an exemplary subject, and became the program's pride and joy. Her intelligence and physical ability was wholly remarkable, and she continued to improve with each day. However, unlike most other Projects in the program, Eight retained some of her human thoughts, emotions or feelings, although she had little knowledge of what they meant. She had never been taught human emotions, or anything human at all, and so it was no suprise that she became confused.
She found solace in a professor, far kinder than his peers, who began to teach her about emotions and the like. He became her first friend, and though she was still at physical perfection and astounding intelligence, she was different. Softer. More human. When the professor became attached to her as well, he began to finally see the injustice in the program and soon formulated a plan to help Eight finally escape. The two of them smuggled their way off of Xenar and onto Mars. The professor was later killed and Eight was left alone, on the run.
Other Eight > You |
