I just received my copy, and here's my 2 cents on the dvd:
I was very impressed with it :) . I liked Craig's little message that he put on the inside cover case saying that he had no idea there'd be a season 1 DVD, let alone a show period after his ideas initially got rejected for being a bit too "weird". I also liked seeing many of the old promo's from the Extras section of the DVD. I remember being 10 years old at the time & seeing those same promo commercials lead up to the premiere of the show. That was a great feeling of nostalgia for me. There were some promo commercials I recognized that were from the years '00-'01. That was around the time that the series had aired enough episodes to be put into primetime. I thought that since this DVD was supposed to be about the original first season that that right there made those little primetime commercial promos seem out of place. It should've been saved for the season 3 DVD, but it's no big deal. What I found most interesting from the Extras section were the other Whoopass Girls shorts that Craig made. Him's early design looks cool, he almost looks exactly like he is in the actual show except he's more feminine looking with a tail and demon ears. I also liked how the woman in the short called Him by his true name (which is The Devil; as if PPG fans didn't know that already). Mojo's early design looks similar to how he looks on the show too, except in the short he has beady eyes which makes him look older (IMO) & he's referred to as Doctor Mojo - interesting. According to Craig in the raw Space Ghost interview Mojo was to be considered (and still technically is) one of the hardest villains that The Powerpuff Girls ever faced. I always assumed when I saw how obedient Mojo was towards Him in "Telephonies" back in it's original airing that Him was supposed to be one of the hardest villains (and the main villain) that the girls would face, and then Mojo 2nd. I guess Mojo becoming a main recurring villain after season 1 wasn't coincidental, and was indeed part of Craig's plan for the show. I also like how Mojo's original origin story was simple & separate from the girl's origin story. And finally based on the "Monster Trouble" Whoopass short, and Buttercup's own promo I can easily assume that she was originally going to get the ice breath power. Makes sense since her character doesn't feel that special compared to her sisters.
I can't wait for the season 2 DVD to eventually come out by the end of this year :D ! Hopefully on that one Craig will put on it the original whoopass animatic for the villain Princess. I've always loved her since her premiere episode & since Craig said that he made animatics of all the main villains that the girls faced in the series it's only natural to put Princess's on the next DVD. Also I'd like to see more promo commercials in the next DVD. There's this specific one from early '00 that I haven't seen in ages. It was a really weird/cool, rap/hip-hop PPG commercial that had season 1 & 2 clips in it. I don't remember much about it, all I do remember is there was this one part in it where they had the Professor repeat the word chemical X a few times throughout it & the narrator also said some lines in between that. Also one of the monsters from Boogie Frights said around the end "The one (the one)...", "The only (the only)...", and then the narrator ended it (and the commercial) by saying "The P-P-P-Powerpuff Girls".
P.S.: Is it just me or does Craig look (and sound like) an emo-version of Dawson from Dawson's Creek. That's something I noticed when I saw Craig's interviews in the extras. |

I'm not impressed with the DVD at all. The packaging is really nice. However, the special features are all but non-existent. The transfer is sub-par. The video is grainy and too compressed.
The menus are a joke. Seriously, this is a disappointment. |

| I really didn't see the point in buying it, so there are special features but is that really worth buying it for? Besides, I think the majority of people who bought this only had their eyes set on the Rowdyruff Boys episode. |

^ Not entirely. I got a kick out of plenty of episodes not to mention I've been waiting for this DVD for years. Lame features or not, it's still episodes of the Powerpuff Girls that I now posess and can now watch whenever I please.
So, there's that. |
