Memphis stepped out of his front door, looking out at the grass and the wind blowing wildly through the town of Briden. He began to descend down the stairs of the stoop to his colonial styled house, the wind rushing past him and forcing his hair into his eyes. He brushed them away, looking around as the trees bent seemingly half way over before he placed a hand forward and an octagonal-ethereal plate appeared in front of him that forced the wind away. It was a typical spell for a mage, the shield spell, just only one plate used.
As he walked people stared, he was the "Next Great Mage" and of course he hated that. He didn't want to be the "next great mage" or even a great mage. He enjoyed experimenting, he just enjoyed doing what he did. The world around them was looking for a reason to gain hope, and of course this Menace character that was currently taking over didn't thrill the world. Briden was a town of peace and harmony, the mage's way. Use your technique and power when needed or for chores or what not, but do not inflict upon somebody just to cause harm.
The streets weren't filled, the windiness of the day wasn't something people liked, and of course who would dare leave the safety of their home in these troubling times when Menace rules half the world? No, he would never attack the small town of Briden, it had nothing to offer him... Aside for powerful mages dating centuries back who may currently be experimenting on how to control time and space itself. No, he had nothing to gain.
As Memphis walked, he heard people playing and kids laughing from indoors, the curtains would always fall back to their once neat spot if he so much as looked towards a window or door due to the fact that he was the "misfit". No, he was not accepted because Briden was a nice town where the strange was unwanted and the unique were only admired once they accomplished something and were recognized for it. Briden wasn't a town Memphis much enjoyed, but had left his mark there. In the middle of the park, there was a large tree with "Knok" carved into it, his nickname of choice.
He made his way to the center of the park, and sat down on one of the benches, looking up at the blue sky above them. It was a wondrous day, and of course a day like this brought so much hope and promise for the future, until the sky began to change. The redness and the darkness filled int it as Memphis zipped up the front of his hoodie, flipping the hood up and letting his sleeves fall down to his wrists. It was here, Menace had finally decided to finish the mages.
Memphis held one hand into the air, and from under his hood his eyes turned a bright and voluptuous blue color that radiated light to the surrounding area. It seemed to streak as he moved, his other hand flying up as well as several ethereal plates appeared, surrounding him and forming a barrier between him and the outside world. He knew it would come one day, as did most mages who weren't sure some warrior would step up and slay Menace and bring for a new peaceful world order.
The now reddening sky was realized as what it was, thousands of flaming arrows ready to rain down upon the town of Briden, shredding and burning everything in it's path. All Memphis could do was stand there and wait, the rest of the town would have to lay in ruins. He was stuck now under the plates as his eyes continued to burn the same intense color they had recently changed to.
"Looks like Victor is threatened.. But by who?" He questioned as the arrows began to rip through houses, screams and hustling began to echo as the flames rose viciously into the air of the houses, and Memphis stood there in the middle of the park and watched. He couldn't have alerted anybody in time, or saved them. His own energy saved himself from the same fate, but of course now he was left. Mages weren't that rare, but now one of the last old Mage towns were destroyed with one, maybe more, survivors left. Memphis only shook his head watching the onslaught as he spoke the words: "Life has finally ended for all of you, you can rest easy and now realize there is so much to look forwards to." |
