Just as a few examples from Not So Awesome Blossom...
Buttercup: *brags about how she saved the day*
Bubbles: Alright already! We get the picture! We were there, remember?!
Buttercup: You're just jealous!
Bubbles: I am not! Just because Blossom blew it doesn't mean I would!
Buttercup: Uh huh!
Bubbles: Nuh uh!
Buttercup: Uh huh!
Bubbles: Nuh uh!
Buttercup: Uh huh!
Bubbles: Nuh uh! (Tackles Buttercup and starts a fight)
Bubbles: That's because you're holding it upside down, dumb dumb head!
Buttercup: I think we're supposed to go to Mojo's and save the professor.
Bubbles: Again?
And I haven't seen the Christmas special, but I couldn't resist watching a bit of it in advance...
Buttercup: No wonder you got coal in your stocking!
Bubbles: I already had coal in my stocking before I looked at the other kids' stockings!
Christ, is she permanently on PMS or something? She was never that aggressive in the first four seasons. |

It's called character growth. Remember Bubblesvicious? While Bubbles' change in character seemed temporary, as she quickly reverted back to her old self in the very same episode, the fact of the matter was that she was starting to grow tired of being the "shweet, shweet wittle gurl" and eventually took on a more permanent change of character. What happened in Bubblevicious was just a brief and shallow "I'LL SHOW THEM!" transformation, but it was a start.
It's like when a parent scolds a disobedient child and he finds it unreasonable. For the time being, it seems that the lad will accept whatever was enforced onto him, usually because the other side is around twice his size. Later on, however, probably during the child's teenage years, it'll all come back in the form of rebellion and overall angst. Sudden change? Looks like it, especially from a parent's perspective. But did it all come out of nowhere?
Hahaha, no.
Angst-ridden teenagers are still shit, though. |
