So, yea. This thread is for Iron Man discussion. I'm seeing it this evening so I'll say more when I get back. Feel free to contribute, for sure.

Okay....I fucking love this movie.

The good:

- The Story was well thought-out and felt plausable. It didn't try to throw too much into the mix (i.e., anything mystic or farfetched). Good, solid story. Unlike that horrible, horrible animated film. It's not even in the same ballpark!

- Downey Jr. Is an amazing Tony Stark. He's funny, he's a smartass, and very charismatic. Just about every line was gold to me (his press conferences were hilarious).

- I would have gone with another pick for Jim Rhodes, but Terrence Howard pulls it off. There were no roles that were out of place. Everyone did good for who they were.

- The suit was amazing! I actually get this feeling of thrill when it first took off. They engineer the scenes to be breathtaking and amazing, and that's cool. Definitely don't get that feeling often in movies. Also, the testing scenes hilarious (the extinguisher gag was rich!).

- The fight scenes were, surprisingly, easy to follow. The camera didn't have a seizure like it does in virtually every other action movie, which is fan-fucking-tastic! The battles were easy to understand, and looked phenomenal. Badass, even. VERY good.

The bad:

- SHIELD was seriously downplayed. In the animated film, they try to investigate and apprehend Stark. In this movie, all they do is make themselves known and give Stark a calling card and an alliby. Kinda like they're his buddy or something. They just weren't noteworthy. And the acronym thing was stupid. Throughout the film they identify themselves fully pronouncing the agency's name. The big SHIELD surprise at the end is, they begin to call themselves SHIELD. Fucking disappointing, as I'm expecting the big SHIELD surprise to be, you know, SAMUEL L. JACKSON AS NICK FUCKING FURY. He wasn't even in the film! That sucks more than you know.

But anyways, incredible movie! I was really hoping for one memorable blockbuster this year, and this was it. It's awesome, it's funny, it's good. I personally hate Iron Man, what all with the crap he pulled in Civil War, but I still think this film blows me away. GO SEE IT.

....

BTW, live action Deathnote movie?

I heard Death Note so I immediately came to this thread.

The live action is nothing special imo, it mimics the manga and anime with a few minor and major exceptions.

I'd say watch it if you've seen Death Note Episode 25+

Awesome film

Outside of what G has already covered, most of which I agree with, I particularly loved Stark & Pepper's relationship. Maybe it's just me, but the playful 1940's feel of this one felt really refreshing after being subjected to the tired Peter-MJ wangsty dreck that was Spider-Man 3 (still not over it).

The only beef I have with this movie is that, although the set-up was done adequately, It was only done adequately and no more. it's like the direction treated it as an "Okay, folks. This is Iron Man's origin story. Yadda yadda. Look. Let's just get this out of the way so we can get on with the film, alright?" thing than a truly integral part of the story. Can't have everything, I guess.

There was also the quick-cut gag that was re-used a few times too many for my own liking.

Tony: Why don't you just say it was a training exercise incident? You know, your usual BS?

Rhodey: Tony, it's not that simple.

[QUICK CUT]

Rhodey: It was just a training exercise incident.

Thankfully, though, the remainder of the film and its rather witty dialogue more than made up for that. Ah, Tony. What a funny man you are.

And man, that Warmachine "Maybe some other day" thing was a real tease. :<

Motherfucking after-credit scenes. I hate them. :x

No, I didn't stay for that part. God damn it.

That said, if the other films on my checklist (Speed Racer, Narnia, Indy, Hulk, Hellboy, TDK, X-Files, WALL-E) go anywhere as well as Iron Man did, it'll be a hell of a summer.
