....Then apologizes for it.

Seems like they're also requesting to forfeit the match. I'm sorry, but I just don't see what the problem is. Parents from the other school are whining that the winning team should have backed off or something, but whose fault is it that the other team sucks? Certainly not the winners. I also don't see the moral victory approach the article is trying to impose on you. They make it sound like a team loses badly, but they're better for it because they don't give up. Fair enough, but that message is also criticizing a basketball team for winning. Dude, they're making 3-pointers throughout the entire game. TALK ABOUT THAT!
So yea, I don't expect any conversations to start here over this, Ijust thought it was an interesting point. Maybe you feel differently. |

| If anything, the losing team should have forfeited at halftime. Anyway, why the heck didn't they have a mercy rule? |

Because mercy is for the weak. Didn't you ever see The Karate Kid? Or even "Bubblevicious"?
I guess my biggest question is why Dallas Academy is fielding a basketball program in the first place. According to the article, their girls' varsity team hasn't won a single game in the past four years. The team only has eight players, out of about twenty high school girls total. In fact, the school's website lists a total enrollment of "between 140 and 145," counting boys and girls in grades 3 through 12. Do the math. They're not remotely large enough to have a remotely competitive program in any team sport known to man. Sure, have 'em play basketball for the fitness and whatnot, but don't actually make them play against other teams! That's just cruel! |

WTF? When did religion have anything to do with this? |

| ^ The winning team comes from a private Christian academy. So they have to ask "WWJD?" before doing anything. Apparently, they think Jesus wouldn't have run up the score in a basketball game. Of course, I'm not sure why God Incarnate would be playing against a bunch of high school girls in the first place, but whatever. |

*Reads the new article*
Wow, so the winning coach was let go. Well I can see how defending his 100 point winning team and saying they won with integrity and fairness and should not be a bunch of stupid kiss-asses because their skill was too high is grounds for termination. Who knows, maybe now he'll get a job at a high school that isn't afraid of winning. Meanwhile Covenant continues to apologize and claim their victory against poor little Dallas as a never-ending "embarassment." I think the right thing to do is for them to just simply give up on their stupid athletic program altogether. If you're gonna feel like jerks every time you have a landslide victory over another team then you'll either never allow your players to win with pride, or just won't let them win at all. So if that's how they do business they should just give up right now.
....
And the losers were invited to a private suite to watch a Mavericks game? Oh, they're not capitalizing on this at all. First it's all the positive spotlight the media can slap together, then free basketball games. What's next, the fuckin' key to the city? No taxes for the rest of their lives?
STOP TREATING THEM LIKE CHARITY CASES. THEY LOST. OKAY. MOVE ON TO THE NEXT GAME. |
