Argh, why is it you Americans seek to destroy EVERYTHING. It's bad enough you raped my childhood with Dragonball now you gotta rape my adulthood with Death Note?

| Why the hell would they need to make a Hollywood adaptation of DeathNote when the Japanese live-action movies were already released to theaters in America? (granted, there were limited showings, but still) |

Same reason we went to the moon: because we can. And, to a lesser extent, to humiliate the Russians. (Er, maybe that one was just for the moonshot.)
Anyway, don't blame Hollywood for this. They're just businessmen trying to make a buck. And if that means buying up cult classics and turning them into mindless mainstream crap, well, we do what we have to to survive. Likewise, don't blame whatever Japanese company owns the rights to Dėthnųte. They too are just in it for the money, and sometimes that means you have to sell off a cult classic to get turned into mindless mainstream crap. Instead, blame the consumers, both here and abroad, who buy that crap, who let it turn a profit, and who thus encourage people on both sides of the (other) pond to make more of it.
But as long as this is gonna happen, consider: http://zacefroniskira.com/. It's the part he was born to play, baby. |

Why would Japan take The Powerpuff Girls and re-adapt it to fit Japanese culture? Because it works for them.
Hollywood--while it's true that they probably saw Death Note and went, "Hey! I spies a pretty penny movie!"--is also trying to appeal to Americans.
"What do you mean? Don't they know Americans already like it the way it is?" Well, , yes. Yes, they do. And that's why they're going to play the same cast, use basically the same plot, and have basically the same events. Only live-action-y. HOWEVER, the anime does NOT, believe it as you will, appeal to EVERYONE. There are plenty of Americans who will turn their noses up at it--some just BECAUSE it's anime or (in the Japanese-film's case) because it's FOREIGN or because they don't like the English dub.
And, really, as wary as I am when Hollywood tries to remake ANYTHING, I think some of you are overreacting (DARK  ). Dragonball Evolution was BAD. I mean, yeah, it was really, REALLY BAD...
BUT--BUT! Please, remember...we're talking two entirely different animes. Death Note has a far better chance than Dragonball Z EVER had. Why?
Realism. Everything in Death Note will be 1000x easier to convert to fit the American theater; therefore, it WILL,fantastic or otherwise, still be much better than DB:E--trust me.
And, honestly? I'm holding my breath. I won't say anything until I see the trailers and/or cast. Even then, I'll wait until I see it, myself. In the meantime, I hope everyone can keep their heads--because there's plenty of other crap to cry about and whine over.
And before anyone takes these things the wrong way (which always seems to happen)...No, I'm not trolling or trying to bash anybody. Just stating my opinions. Thank you. |

XD He's a Death Note fanboy, whatcha gonna expect?
At any case, when it comes out I'll watch it. ^^; I'm sure it won't rape my soul as much as Dragonball Evolution did. |

...Not much. He's British. XD (DARK, YOU ROCK!)
I just don't want to hear another load of hissing and complaining when Death Note may actually have a chance. (DBZ I was anticipating, but I really didn't have much hope for it--it's brilliant, but too fantastical). |

Then again, there are also plenty of Americans (like myself) who simply aren't interested in the story, and no amount of Western adaptation will fix that problem. The biggest gray area IMO is this: how many people will watch Yanqui!Dėthnųte who haven't already heard of, read, and/or seen Weeaboo!Dėthnųte? Or are Yakko, Wakko, and Dot relying on the fanboys to bring in the phat cash? |
