My thoughts? It's bogus. The more Christians try to force themselves, the more they challenge the freedom of choice God so mercifully gave us. This kind of forced pettiness is what makes people think we're all psychos. I'm not advocating immoral activities, but Christian idealists MUST find ways to get their points across without scaring everyone else away.

OMFG!! That's bull! I don't see why some religions see dances as such immoral sins! I don't see anything wrong with this boy wanting to take his girlfriend to a damn prom! He's a teenager for goodness sakes! What the hell is he supposed to do if wants to have fun with his girl? Play scrabble? As long as he has innocent intentions for this dance, there's nothing wrong with going to a prom.

And even if he does get involved in alcohol and/or sex, that's his problem! The church can't make anyone follow their regulations by force! I'm catholic, and we're supposed to be the strictest ppl out there...or kind of. But you know what I mean! Not even a priest is this "conservative."

This is the problem. Christianity wants to control everything. Some one just has to tell them to shove it. (Sorry if this affends anyone)

While I like to think of myself as a tolerant person, things like this make me glad to be more of an Agnostic-like person. :?:

If only the religious spent half as much time contributing to the needy as they did complaining about things, our world would be a significantly better place.

No offense taken, Metal. >.>

The way I see it, if you're stupid enough to enroll in a frickin' Baptist school, you deserve what you get.

Argh, this just makes me hate religion even more. Their heads are so far up their arses with the whole "God" idea that they've distorted the TRUE values of what religion is meant to teach.

Maybe if ALL religions followed the idea of Buddhism the world would be a better place.

I just saw this article before. My mom and I were like, wtf? o_O;;

The fact that they claim rock music and dancing is the cause of "implanting seeds of rebellion in young people's hearts and minds," is just sickening... and there is nothing stated in the Bible about such things displeasing God. I kinda want to know if it's even lawful for the school to control his actions off school grounds... because as far as I'm concerned, anything happening outside of school grounds cannot be handled by the school they attend unless given permission to. It's not the kid's fault that he wanted to attend a strict Baptist school, either; maybe he just wanted to practice his faith in such an environment (or maybe the parents sent him, who knows..)... but that doesn't mean the school should control each and every one of his actions twenty-four/seven. Ultimately, it's up to him whether or not he chooses to be a radical Christian, or just a follower of his faith.

This is an example of taking advantage of Christianity and its views... I'm sure the reason the school committee will penalize him if he goes is to make sure their school doesn't look bad if the kid actually did drink and have sex. It's disgusting how certain radical Christians use their religion to claim an act is wrong.

But even the parents believe it's outrageous that he won't be able to walk! Argh! It's so damn retarded, and unfair! I TOTALLY agree with what Gopher said, if these morons forget the petty things such as penalizing someone for dancing to rock n' roll, and maybe install missionary work into their split pea-sized brain, there wouldn't be so many ppl who hate God. Geez, this why I'm not very fond of Baptist Christians; they are so hypocritical (most of the time), prejudice, and just plain bigots. Instead of welcoming people to get closer to God, they push them away! Some love they preach about!

If the kid actually did go to his girlfriend's prom, the parents should take action if they try to ban him from walking at graduation. I really don't think the school can technically control what a student does off school grounds... they can TRY, but I honestly doubt they really can.

And it's not really just Baptists, you've got some Catholics who are just as judgmental and hypocritical too... actually, any follower of any religion can be just as terrible. It's just, more so recently it's become apparent that certain Christians will do whatever they can to make it seem like their beliefs are the only moral beliefs a person can have, and they use scare tactics to make their followers (or non-followers) feel bad about "letting God down" or something.. I totally agree with you, it does push them away! That, or some people feel obligated to follow because they're afraid of the consequences.

^ Yes, I guess you're right, any religious fanatics are crazy! lol, there was one crazy fanatic at our school who was telling us that we are all going to hell. And then he started telling all the women that we should be at home cooking and cleaning. Then these girls from a Sorority got so pissed off that a riot almost happened right there, so the police had to escort the man out of the university. I couldn't help but laugh at his stupidity; he was so crazy! then my brother told me he saw the same guy at his community college. Seriously! Instead of yelling at people and try to force his morals down ppl's throats, he should be out there actually being a Christian.
